Saint Marceau

Since Roman times it has been an important crossing point or pilgrim routes. In addition, Saint Julien lived out his final years and died here in the V th Century. The priory and the XI th Century chapel are dedicated to his name. The Benedictine monks of the Abbey Saint Vincent in Le Mans were responsible for the priory until the Revolution (in the late XVIII th century). In 1988 it was adopted as a centre for cultural activities.
The artist, Theodore Boulard (1887-1961) was born and lived in Saint Marceau, using the simple life of the rural society around him as the inspiration for his many paintings, some of wich can seen in the priory.
